Have you ever had a meningitis scare? According to recent research, six out of 10 parents wouldn't feel confident about recognising the signs of meningitis.
Although 3,000 people in the UK are affected by all types of bacterial meningitis each year, it is children and babies under 5-years-old are most at risk because they don't replace the natural immunity they get from their mothers until school age.
The condition can kill in under 4 hours and those who do survive could be left with a permanent disability such as loss of limbs, blindness, deafness or brain damage – so it is vital to know the signs.
