Co Antrim long distance biker Wilson Lynn has reached Australia where he did some touring on a 250 Honda bought out there. He’s sold it now and is going to return home to Northern Ireland soon and then start planning his next trip.
When I last reported on his progress he was riding from Vietnam to Singapore on a 125 Suzuki. It proved too expensive to ship the bike to Australia so he made a gift of it to a young lad in a motorbike shop.
On route to Singapore he travelled along the Ho Chi Minh trail. “It was very interesting,” he emailed me. “I had to make six, knee deep river crossings, and then ride up steep muddy slopes.
“I fell off only twice (that’s where his motocross experience came in), muck locked the front wheel and I needed a push up some hills. I met a man with chains on his 110 Honda and he just laughed at me and went on across a river.
“I’m already planning my next trip but I will have to come home first to prepare my next bike. (His original BMW F650GS single was wrecked when a lorry carrying it overturned in a snow drift in China).
“I have learnt a lot this trip. I had hoped to finish my world trip in one go but will complete it on my next bike, hopefully next year.” Knowing you and your determination, Wilson, you will.
