A young deer is seen in the street view scene of Five Points Road in Rush, NY

Google Maps has now blacked out images of one its vehicles apparently hitting and killing a baby deer on a rural road in the United States.

As users followed the street view scene down Five Points Road in Rush, New York, they were able to see the deer running out in front of the car.

It then appeared to be hit by the vehicle. Another shot shows the fawn lying on the side of the road.

>> Warning: Some readers may find the related images disturbing.

An insider at Google said the images were removed after several requests from users using the Street View image removal option

Another Google employee said: "The driver was understandably upset, and promptly stopped to alert the local police and the Street View team at Google."

Aaron, how would you like to be run over by a car? I'm sure that poor deer had more compassion and innocence in it than you'll ever have. To call you an animal would be an insult to animals.

Alex, I hope you are reincarnated as a deer and find yourself served up on a plate. No perhaps not, I like (live) deers afterall all. I wouldn't wish them to have your company.

Moggers - I don't think any title that describes Bambi being killed can be described as 'cheery'. What are you on about?

why is it such a cheery funny title for this article! It's given a flippant title, then you tell readers they might be upset by the pictures. Have a bit of respect.

World must open its eyes and see Israel for what it is

Why pick on Israel when there's so much injustice in the rest of the world? The answer is to be found in the specific circumstances which gave rise to the launch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign in July 2005.

PR machine is driving Sinn Fein power push

Sinn Fein's ard fheis opens in Killarney tomorrow. Like most conferences held by successful political parties, it is a well-managed set-piece. It is a PR event and it is aimed at the voters watching on TV.
