Revealed: what makes us huff on our holidays
Friday, 30 December 2011
Northern Ireland holidaymakers spend their foreign breaks arguing about money, drinking and the kids.
A recent survey of more than 600 tourists has revealed that when we go away, we can't just leave our issues at home.
Almost a third of respondents listed money as the biggest cause of holiday huffs.
Families and couples admitted to being more likely to disagree about spending too much money, not budgeting enough and what the money is spent on.
Even deciding who holds on to the cash is a sore point.
Drink comes in at a close second as a key contender for fallouts abroad. Celebrating escaping the daily grind by drinking copious cocktails at the beach bar is a sure-fire way to kickstart an argument for 16% of those surveyed.
For families, the kids are another top reason for holiday disputes as 13% agreed that their children gave plenty of opportunities for beach bickering.
Quarrels tended to centre around who would mind the kids at the pool, who would lather on their sun cream and how to keep them entertained.
Brawling over what to do, where to go, shopping and restaurants also scored highly in the survey, showing that holidays aren't always a relaxing break.
Carol Anne O'Neill from Falcon Holidays, who completed the survey, gave a bit of advice for holidaymakers.
She said: "Some of the issues can be avoided if people plan their budget and do some research to make sure they get a holiday destination that will satisfy everybody."
