Forget the two-week holiday abroad - its all about getting more for your money and your time in Northern Ireland

Throughout July and August, Translink and the NITB are challenging the Williamson family from east Belfast to forego their vacation abroad and instead opt for a series of day trips throughout Northern Ireland using public transport.

The Williamsons will be plotting different day trips around NI, stopping in at the likes of Armagh Planetarium, the Giant's Causeway, the Tall Ships and Londonderry to name but a few.

The aim of the challenge, which will see the family travelling some 703 miles around NI, is to show the public that NI can be the location for a truly successful family summer holiday, with the emphasis on fun, relaxation, visiting new places, trying new activities and spending as much time as possible with family and friends.

For information on Translink timetables, fares and summer offers, log on to www.translink.co.uk or phone 028 9066 6630

World must open its eyes and see Israel for what it is

Why pick on Israel when there's so much injustice in the rest of the world? The answer is to be found in the specific circumstances which gave rise to the launch of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) campaign in July 2005.

PR machine is driving Sinn Fein power push

Sinn Fein's ard fheis opens in Killarney tomorrow. Like most conferences held by successful political parties, it is a well-managed set-piece. It is a PR event and it is aimed at the voters watching on TV.

Why bringing up our kids should be child's play... or maybe it's not

Nurse, the screens! Yup, top experts have issued new warnings about kiddies watching nothing but tellies and computers, while real life flits by unnoticed outside.
