15-month-old baby girl fights for life after Northern Ireland 'assault'
A baby girl was left battling for life after an alleged assault in Northern Ireland, a hospital confirmed today.
A 30-year-old man was arrested and the 15-month-old child rushed to treatment in Belfast.
The attack happened at Glebe Park, Enniskillen, Co Fermanagh.
A spokeswoman for the Royal Hospital said: "Earlier on she was critical."
Police confirmed there had been an arrest and said the man was assisting with inquiries.
Glebe Park is a residential area of the lakeside town on the road to Tempo.
The incident happened last night.
An ambulance service spokesman said: "We transferred a 15-month-old child from Erne Hospital (Enniskillen) to Belfast Children's Hospital last night at a quarter to 11."
A spokesperson for the Western Health and Social Care Trust said: "The Western Trust is aware of a reported serious assault on a child aged 15 months in the Fermanagh area.
"The trust is currently assisting the PSNI with their enquiries and will not be making any further comment on the incident at this time."
