Borussia Dortmund’s anti-Nazi video is an absolute must watch

They’ve made their feelings pretty clear here.

Borussia Dortmund are one football club that have refused to “stick to sports” after posting an anti-Nazi video to their Twitter page.

The post comes amid a rise in nationalist sentiment in the country, which saw the anti-migrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) party finish third in the German election, while Chancellor Angela Merkel’s conservative bloc finished first.

The Bundesliga club’s video shows people demonstrating Nazi behaviour as they play football, performing Nazi salutes as they try and fail to kick a ball around.

The message is that football and Nazis simply don’t go together.

Bundesliga 2 side FC St Pauli meanwhile put out a similar message of their own on social media.

“Now more than ever! For a tolerant and diverse society. United against fascism,” the tweet reads.

Germany’s mainstream parties have all ruled out teaming up with AfD, which is one of six caucuses in the new parliament after winning 12.6% of the vote.

Political analysts say AfD’s success is all the more remarkable because it has drifted steadily rightward in a country where voters are sensitive to any revival of the extreme nationalism that brought Adolf Hitler to power 84 years ago.
