A 20-year-old woman has died and a second woman has been left fighting for her life after a horror crash in Co Armagh.

The woman who died was the passenger in a car that was in collision with a lorry yesterday afternoon. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to Craigavon Area Hospital before being transferred to the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, where her condition was last night described as "critical".

The crash happened on the Legacorry Road in Richhill at about 3.30pm.

It is understood that the collision took place close to a dangerous bend in the road.

DUP councillor Reda Donnelly said: "As the mother of four young daughters, my heart goes out to the family of the woman killed."

The tragedy brings to eight the number of people killed on Northern Ireland's roads this year.

Three people died in road traffic accidents here in January alone.
