Belfast Zoo closed and parks not gritted
Belfast City Council has urged caution among users of its parks during the current cold snap.
Chairman of the parks and leisure committee councillor Bob Stoker warned: “The majority of the council’s parks, particularly the smaller parks and smaller routes within the larger city parks, are not gritted during icy spells.
“Our resources for salting and gritting are targeted at areas of need, particularly the working cemeteries and the City of Belfast Crematorium and also in order to provide access to Belfast Castle and Malone House as best we can.
“As a result of the inclement weather we have been forced to close Belfast Zoo for safety reasons. Botanic Gardens was also closed for a period of time but has now been re-opened.”
