Detectives are investigating the discovery of a woman's body in the boot of a car.

The state pathologist was called to the scene at Newcastle in Co Dublin.

It was reported the discovery was made by gardai probing the disappearance of Helen Donegan. The 30-year-old woman went missing almost seven weeks ago from her home at St Patrick's Park in Celbridge, Co Kildare.

The body was discovered in the boot of the car at around 5pm on Tuesday.

"The gardai are treating the death as suspicious," a spokesman said.

The scene was sealed off and preserved for a technical examination.

It is expected that a post-mortem examination to determine the identity of the remains and the cause of death will be carried out on Wednesday.
