The family of a six-year-old boy who died after being injured in a car accident have donated his organs to help other sick children.

The brave gesture comes after another weekend of carnage on our roads which has left two more dead. This brings to 107 the road death tally this year so far.

Little Jerome Mone, from Ballygassoon Road in Armagh, was critically injured in the crash on the Red Lion Road in Loughgall on Thursday.

His family yesterday pledged to donate his organs to help other sick children.

In a statement, his family said he died " leaving the gift of hope and life".

"On December 22, at 12.45pm, an everyday, ordinary family said their final farewells to a much- loved six year-old boy who tragically lost his life following a road traffic accident.

"At this time of such sadness this gift of hope is no doubt the ultimate Christmas gift."

His mother, Angela, described her little boy as a "sometimes timid but always loving and giving child."

"Although Jerome's life was short, with his family he crammed it full of adventure and fun, giving those close to him lasting memories to ease the unfathomable pain that his departing brings, " the statement read.

"In his too-short life, Jerome brought an abundance of laughter and joy to all who knew him."

Jerome is survived by his father Sean, his mother Angela and older brothers and sisters Eugene, Stephen, Celina and Edel.

Meanwhile, 22-year-old Dennis McCreesh died following a collision at Glassdrumman Road, in Crossmaglen yesterday.

A police spokesman confirmed that it was reported that a Nissan 4x4 vehicle had left the road, shortly after 10.20am.

Earlier yesterday morning, in a separate incident in Cushendall, one man, named locally as Sean Duffin, died, and another man was injured in a crash.

At around 6am, a red Ford Escort car left the Tromra Road.

Mr Duffin died in hospital of his injuries, while another remains in hospital with serious injuries.
