Call to get behind City of Culture campaign

Derry City Council today issued a rallying cry for people to show their support for the UK City of Culture bid.

Londonderry was the first city to submit its bid for UK City of Culture 2013, and is now looking for more people to register their support ahead of the presentation in mid-June.

Oonagh McGillion, temporary director of development with Derry City Council, yesterday successfully delivered the bid in Manchester.

As of yesterday, almost 8,000 people, organisations and businesses had backed the bid.

Claire Lundy, Derry City Council’s marketing and communications officer, speaking on behalf of the bid team, said: “We’ve made it really easy to show support online with all the options available at www.cityofculture2013.com, and selected ‘get involved’.

“Our ambition is to ensure the judges say ‘yes’ to our city and region and bring this accolade home.”
