Making the difference 2012: Best Neighbour

Tuesday, 13 December 2011

He is a “gentleman with a heart of gold” who has worked tirelessly to keep the community spirit alive in south Belfast.

Fiercely proud of his roots William Dickson — known as Billy to his neighbours — is a life-long community activist that champions the streets and people he lives around.

Billy, a keen historian and tour guide, has worked with young people in the Village area for over 40 years.

Speaking up for his neighbours through his role as chairman of the Blackstaff Residents’ Association, Billy has the “community’s best interests at heart every step of the way” — according to his nomination.

Ruth Patterson, who nominated Billy, said: “The Village area in south Belfast is undergoing vast regeneration at this time and Billy is as always ensuring the people of the area are represented and their needs are met for the new housing build.

“Billy has a heart of gold and is always ready to lend a helping hand no matter how difficult the situation and is a truly deserving recipient to receive a Making the Difference Award.”
