Rising star Sally Brown has great talent, drive and determination.

The 16-year-old sprinter from Ballykelly, Co Londonderry was born with the condition dysmelia, which means that her left arm did not develop below the elbow.

At primary school Sally joined Springwell Running Club and under the guidance of coach Bill Deehan her love and talent for running developed.

Her skill was soon spotted for the 100m and 200m and in 2008 she was selected to run for Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the International Wheelchair & Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) junior world championships in the Czech Republic.

According to her nomination her “focus and determination” resulted in her winning the bronze medal in the 200m at her major championship debut at the Paralympic World Games in New Zealand in January.

At the World Junior Championships in Manchester, she also won a gold and silver medal.

Her sights are now firmly set on winning a medal in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

Sally was nominated by her current coaches Philip Tweedie and Alistair Bratten who describe her as “positive and self driven”.

“She has never let anything prevent her from achieving her goals,” Mr Tweedie said.
