Sammy Wilson is backing our War on Waste campaign

Finance Minister Sammy Wilson has welcomed the Belfast Telegraph's War on Waste campaign.

The outspoken DUP Minister said taxpayers are annoyed by even “fairly minor” examples of waste.

As this newspaper appealed to readers to report inefficiencies and misuse of public money, Mr Wilson said: “I think it's a good idea.”

He also stated: “Some of these things might be fairly minor and might lead to minor savings.

“Nevertheless, it's those kind of things that irk people when they are told we have got to save money by cutting back on something, or they have to pay more money by being charged more for rates or whatever.

“They are saying that's fine — but why is money being wasted in this way?”
