Christine Bleakley and agent part ‘over ITV move’
Christine Bleakley has reignited speculation that she could be joining Adrian Chiles at ITV after parting company with her agent.
The 31-year-old cut ties with the London-based John Noel Management yesterday amid reports that she is planning to jump ship from the BBC to join her former One Show co-host.
Chiles has been intent on her joining him at ITV since he landed a £6m four-year deal with the network earlier this year. He will be the new face of GMTV and will also anchor the World Cup football coverage.
Bleakley — girlfriend of England midfielder Frank Lampard — is in the middle of negotiations to renew her £100,000 a year contract with the BBC, due to expire in September. It is understood ITV has offered her a £1m contract to defect.
According to reports, John Noel Management wanted Bleakley to stay with the BBC, but she was keen to follow Chiles to ITV.
Bleakley’s agent confirmed last night: “Yes, we have parted company with Christine. But as there is a hand-over period, we will still be looking after her for the next month or two. We cannot comment on the reason for Christine leaving but we will not be representing her in the future.”
Chiles has made no secret of his wish to have Bleakley, whom he describes as his “best friend”, join him on the GMTV sofa. “There is no doubt that Christine and I will work together again. Now whether that is in September on GMTV or at some distant point in the future remains to be seen,” he said.
