A volunteer church worker was fighting for his life in hospital last night after being stabbed outside an event to keep teenagers away from crime.
The 41-year-old was stabbed repeatedly when he confronted a rowdy gang outside a meeting for young Christians in Deptford, south-east London.
Police said a second victim, a 16-year-old boy, suffered stab wounds to his lower body when he stepped in to help the man at about 9.15pm.
Officers had already been alerted to a large group of youths causing trouble outside the event in Douglas Way shortly before 7pm.
Detectives have arrested a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of attempted murder.
