Curistan linked to Harbour position

The Northern Ireland developer locked in a legal battle with the Government is being tipped for a boardroom post with a prominent public body.

Peter Curistan, boss of the Sheridan Group, is understood to be in the running for a Belfast Harbour Commissioners' position.

Mr Curistan has spent much of the past week in the High Court for a judicial review case taken by his company against the Department for Social Development (DSD).

It is seeking to overturn a December 2006 decision to axe it as preferred developer for the Queen's Quay site in Belfast.

Judgment in the case has been reserved until early in the new year.

Responsibility for filling Belfast Harbour Commissioner posts rests with the Department for Regional Development.

A spokeswoman for the DRD said an announcement is due by the end of this month.

Sources have indicated that Mr Curistan is strongly in contention.

He declined to comment on the speculation when contacted by the Belfast Telegraph.

Belfast Harbour Commissioners are responsible for overseeing the management of Belfast Port.
