Distraught mum’s tears as murdered baby laid to rest
Hundreds of mourners gathered on Saturday for the funeral of the tragic baby boy whose father has been charged with his murder.
Around 400 people attended the Glenview Park home of little Cameron’s grandmother Margaret Black for a private funeral service.
The 14-week-old baby's distraught teenage mum Sheree choked back tears as mourners made their way to to Carnmoney Cemetery.
Relatives of the youngster's father Ryan Leslie — who appeared in court last week charged with his son's murder - were also in attendance.
Speaking after the funeral, Rev Ian McDonald from New Mossley Presbyterian Church said: “It was a very, very sad occasion and both families have been left devastated by this terrible tragedy.
“The families also showed incredible strength during the funeral service and it was good to see so many people turn up to pay their respects to little Cameron.
“They have been coping remarkably well throughout the last week and they have received great support from family and friends.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with them at this tragic time and I hope they can find strength from God when dealing with this burden of grief over the coming weeks and months.”
Little Cameron lost his fight for life on Saturday of last week just 48 hours after being rushed to hospital from his Newtownabbey home suffering from serious injuries.
During the past week death notices appeared in the Press for the child under two different surnames.
Under the name Cameron Addis-Black, the baby's mother wrote: “If I could have a lifetime wish, a dream that would come true, I'd pray to God with all my heart for yesterday and you. A thousand tears won't bring you back, I know because I've cried, a thousand prayers won't bring you back, I know because I've tried.
“They say memories are golden, well maybe this is true, but I never wanted memories, I only wanted you.
“Goodnight my little angel, keep a place for me in Heaven. Miss and love you always. Mummy.”
And under the name Cameron Leslie, Ryan Leslie penned: “The future that I thought was bright now all looks dark without your light, potential gone, I cannot see a future now for you or me and yet although your time was short, and you didn't have the life you ought, you brought me joy beyond compare, to counter now my dark despair.
“You brought me hope for three months long, you placed within my heart a song.
“I never got to say goodbye and only God above knows why.
“Good night my little man. Love you always. Daddy.”
