The number of voters registering details with the Electoral Office in Northern Ireland has increased 10-fold, thanks to a special prize draw.

The Office has revealed it received over 34,000 Electoral Registration forms since the launch of the prize draw at the end of March. This is compared to 3,500 forms received in the same period in 2007.

The figures were announced by Chief Electoral Officer Douglas Bain ahead of the first draw of the 12-month pilot scheme, under which anyone who informs the Electoral Office of a change of name or address or who registers for the first time has the opportunity to win a cash prize.
