Clockwise from top: the new Titanic campus of Belfast Metropolitan College; the jacuzzi in the spa, inside the new building; outside the college; a client enjoys all the facilities of the new spa; a girl walks past the new campus
You could be forgiven for thinking this is one of Northern Ireland’s newest spas with its state-of-the-art facilities including a hairdressing salon, jacuzzi, flotation tank, steam room, sauna and gym.
Clients have all the perks and privileges of a plush resort — complimentary cappuccinos, luxury dressing gowns and slippers, relaxing spa music and Sky TV.
But this is not a five-star hotel. Instead it is the new Titanic campus of Belfast Metropolitan College (BMC) in the heart of the city’s Titanic Quarter, designed to give students industry standard facilities to enhance their educational experience.
The £44m award-winning building sits on 22,000 square metres of prime Harbour Commissioners’ land, making it among the biggest further education campuses anywhere in Ireland.
Its 5,000 full-time students and 400 staff get access to the campus via a swipecard system and once inside they have a wealth of facilities at their fingertips.
The building also features specialist catering suites such as a demonstration kitchen with a viewing gallery in the style of the popular television programme Ready, Steady, Cook.
There are high-tech science laboratories, 42 classrooms, a modern canteen, a coffee lounge, conference facilities, lecture theatres and a computer-equipped library.
