BMC lecturers put hold on strike action

A planned walkout by lecturers at Belfast Metropolitan College (BMC) on Monday has been called off.
Up to 500 staff, all members of the University and College Union (UCU), yesterday decided to “temporarily suspend” the three-day strike.
In a letter to members, the union said yesterday: “The UCU branch will ensure that the assurances given by management today (to facilitate ongoing discussions) will be implemented in full and UCU officers will monitor this closely.”
The dispute centres around plans to make further staff redundant in the wake of a damning report into BMC’s finances.
