Lauren Dugan from Newtownards graduated from Queen’s University with a First Class Honours degree in Criminology. Lauren, pictured with her brother Grant (left), Dad Kenneth adn Mum Maud (right). Lauren decided to study Criminology after Grant was assaulted in Newtownards on Christmas Eve in 2005. Lauren is one of Northern Ireland’s top ten-pin bowlers, while Grant is her coach. The pair will travel to Helsinki later this summer where she will represent Northern Ireland in ten-pin bowling at the World Youth Championships.

Stephanie Bird from Carnlough graduated today from Queen's University, Belfast. At the age of 5 Stephanie contracted Meningitis and lost her leg as a result. Stephanie, who has led an active life at Queen's, hopes she can act as an inspiration to others.

Former UTV Romper Room presenter Helen Madden graduated (July 7) at Queen's University with a Masters in Creative Writing from the School of English. Earlier this year Helen was the inaugural recipient of the annual GQ Magazine Norman Mailer non-fiction writing award and was recognised for her submission entitled Rod, Roy and Jerry Lee
