Academy-award nominated writer Tim Loane can add the title ‘Doctor’ to his list of accomplishments after tomorrow’s graduation ceremony at Queen’s.

Belfast-born Mr Loane (48) will receive a doctorate by publication on the second day of winter graduations at Queen’s University. The unique award is given to someone who has made a significant contribution in their field.

He is the mastermind behind the acclaimed Channel 4 series Teachers and an update of the 1980s TV classic, Minder.

Mr Loane has taught creative writing at Queen’s for two years and receives his doctorate on the day his students receive their Masters degrees.

“It’s going to be a very special day. To be honoured in this way is quite an achievement,” he said.
