A group of pupils at St Catherine’s College, Armagh, have proved they’ve got what it takes to make it in the business world having won the innoTAYTOrs Challenge 2010.
The students celebrated last week after impressing a panel of judges at a Dragon’s Den style event with their ‘Alphabiters’ proposal.
The innoTAYTOrs Challenge invited secondary level education schools across Northern Ireland to create a new or modify an existing Tayto product - using their enterprising, creative and innovation skills.
From over 350 entries the top nine schools entered into the Dragons’ Den at W5’s lecture theatre with the hope of securing the coveted top place but there could only be one winner. The triumphant students were presented with a £5,000 cash prize for their school and each member of the group received a laptop.
The other eight schools also each received a laptop for their school.
The winning concept – Alphabiters – is a new, healthy product consisting of shapes made in three unique three flavours Spicy Bolognese, Campy Cheese and Bacon and Cheese. Eleanor McQuaid is one of the members from the St Catherine’s innoTAYTOrs Challenge Team and she is thrilled to have scooped the top prize.
Eleanor said: “We are so excited to have won the innoTAYTOrs Challenge and win this amazing prize. The experience has given us a real flavour for what skills and attributes are required to be successful in the business industry.”
The innoTAYTOrs Challenge is a unique initiative created by local crisp and snack manufacturer, Tayto, and Young Enterprise Northern Ireland.
