Parents in legal fight over plan to close Avoniel Primary School
A group of east Belfast parents are set to take Education Minister John O'Dowd to court over his decision to close their school.
The minister announced his decision two weeks ago to close Avoniel Primary School to the fury of parents.
They were given just a week by the Education Authority to decide if they wanted to send their children to the nearest alternative, Elmgrove Primary School.
Otherwise there was a limited choice of other schools to choose from.
Most children from Avoniel are expected to transfer to Elmgrove, although there is concern over how many it is allowed to hold.
Supporters held a protest this week outside Avoniel.
They are calling for either a reversal of the decision to close, or an amalgamation of Avoniel and Elmgrove.
Now the battle is set to move to the High Court, it can be revealed. A letter will be sent from a solicitor acting for the parents to the minister within seven days.
