Parties tight-lipped over transfer talks

Published 12/11/2009

The four parties involved in weekly talks in a bid to resolve the school transfer stalemate are remaining tight-lipped on the outcome of their discussions this week.

A plan for the SDLP, DUP, UUP and Alliance Party participants to release a significant joint statement did not materialise yesterday.

Instead, a three-sentence statement was issued saying that talks were at “a sensitive stage” and that it was not in the politicians’ interests to disclose more information at this time.

It had been expected that they would confirm their joint backing for a new Government transfer test being put in place for a short period of time and also that they would reveal other areas of agreement reached so far.
