Queen's University Challenge team back on top form

BY CLAIRE WILLIAMSON

A team of students from Queen's University has set up a play-off for a place in this year's University Challenge quarter-finals.

After they suffered a bitter defeat in a previous round of the quiz, the QUB students made a comeback last night.

It was an important match for the team as they defeated Clare College, Cambridge – edging a step closer to the semi-finals.

Having won two out of three quarter-finals the team must now compete in a play-off to secure a place in the semi-final of the famous BBC quiz show hosted by Jeremy Paxman.

After calling their last match a "bad day at the office" team QUB Joseph Greenwood, Suzanne Cobain, Gareth Gamble and Alexander Green were in fighting form as they were put to the test on topics including history, violin concertos and books about mathematicians.

At one point they almost proved a little over zealous as a team member buzzed in to answer a picture question before he had even seen the picture.

It was tight in the end as QUB beat Clare Cambridge 125 to 105.
