Star equine student Liam set to address graduates

Almost 100 students will today graduate from the College of Agriculture, Food and Rural Enterprise's (CAFRE) Enniskillen campus.

The 95 students will be honoured at an awards ceremony this afternoon for their work in Equine Management, Farriery and Agriculture.

The campus offers the widest choice of equine programmes in Ireland, from diplomas to degrees - including a new Foundation Degree in Equine Management from which the first cohort of students will graduate this year.

Enniskillen Campus also delivers a range of nationally validated Lifelong Learning Programmes to people in the equine industry and agriculture community.

Among the students graduating today is Liam Killen from Crossgar in Co Down.

The 23-year-old is graduating as the top student on the Equine Studies Honours Degree and is also one of only 26 students across Ireland who undertook the Washington Ireland programme last year.

Thousands of applicants from universities throughout Ireland competed to join the prestigious programme which aims to inspire, prepare and support the next generation of leaders.

During a six-week scholarship, Liam worked with Habitat, a US homeless housing charity.

Using marketing skills he learned from his degree, Liam assisted Habitat to develop their e-marketing strategy in order to maximise its impact.

He also gave a talk to a select audience at the National Press Club, whose list of illustrious speakers includes past and prospective US Presidents including both Bill and Hilary Clinton.

Today, Liam will address the guests on behalf of the students and in his role as president of the Enniskillen Campus Student Representative Council.

Liam now runs his own equestrian marketing company abbeyviewequine.com
