Emotional farewell to murdered farmer

Published 29/10/2008

The funeral of farmer Victor Stewart, who was found murdered in his Co Armagh home, was held yesterday.

Mourners gathered for the service which took place at Drumhillery Presbyterian Church.

There were emotional scenes as family members embraced each other as Mr Stewart’s coffin was carried into the church.

The 45-year-old was found at his house on the Creevekeeran Road in Middletown last Wednesday.

Police said the victim suffered a violent death and believe he was killed shortly after 9pm on Monday, October 20.

Meanwhile, a man was arrested yesterday in connection with the murder.

The arrest took place in the Armagh area on Tuesday morning, a police spokesman said.

Detectives investigating the murder have said they believe robbery was the motive behind the attack.
