Bikers from across Ireland gathered for the funeral of tragic motorbike racer Sam Martin in a moving ceremony in Co Antrim yesterday.

A team of race marshals wearing bright orange uniforms also joined family and friends at the funeral service for the popular 37-year-old.

Mr Martin was killed in a crash during the Irish Superbike event on the Kirkistown circuit near Newtownards in Co Down on Saturday.

His sister Andrea was among spectators watching the event when tragedy struck and he was thrown from his 1,000cc Suzuki after clipping another rider.

Mr Martin lived with his mum Elizabeth and his grandmother Violet Johnston.

His funeral took place from their family home at Marlborough Drive in Carrickfergus following a funeral service.

Bikers from all over Ireland travelled by convoy to mourn the popular rider, who had just started racing competitively.

Mr Martin was later laid to rest at Victoria Cemetery in the town.
