In 1990 the decision was taken to provide a new hospital to facilitate those living in the Causeway area.
The purpose of the new hospital building was to provide high quality services in a modern facility while improving access for disabled visitors and energy efficiency.
The project began in July 1997 with a budget of £40m and was formally opening in spring 2001.
The success of the Causeway Hospital has not gone unnoticed in previous years, winning various awards for its achievements. Some of these awards include a quality award for domestic services, a best practice award for electronic materials management and maternity services have won two quality awards.
