Opened in 2000, the Odyssey was Northern Ireland’s largest-ever civil engineering project, a multi-purpose indoor venue hosting concerts, shows, sports events, exhibitions and conferences
The arena remains the largest indoor venue in Ireland, offering flexible capacities up to 10,000. It is part of the impressive Odyssey Centre, which incorporates W5, IMAX Theatre, multi-screen cinema, restaurants and night clubs.
Chief Executive Nicky Dunn, who has spearheaded the Odyssey Arena’s journey to success, said: “We’re delighted by the popularity of the Arena. It’s fantastic to see that in our ninth year the Arena continues to grow, bringing in more people and reaching new audiences. The project was the first of it kind in Northern Ireland and it’s great to see it still being enjoyed by everyone.”
During the construction of what was the largest project of its kind for Northern Ireland, enormous amounts of building products went into produce the magnificent finished article including:
- 20,000 lights
- 1,200 people employed during construction
- 1 million square feet of brick/blockwork
- 125,000 tonnes of concrete
- 470 miles of wiring
- 3.5 acres of soft landscaping
- Over 50,000 shrubs
- 15,000 tonnes of steel
- Total site 23 acres
- Over 500 trees
- Odyssey Building 55,000m2
The Odyssey Project marked a new beginning for Northern Ireland, bringing in the 21st Century in style. Having attracted many world class acts it has made a wide contribution to the economy here.
