Located on the outskirts of Newry, this secondary school with 1285 pupils was a complex project for Felix O’Hare Ltd given that all pupils plus 150 members of staff remained onsite for the duration of the work.
Completed in 2007 the new school opened nine months ahead of schedule.
Phase 1 and 2 also presented the opportunity to offer a number of apprenticeships to students of the school during the course of the project.
The construction included new classrooms, a technology suite, canteen and home economics areas and the refurbishment of existing facilities.
Local MLA for Newry and Armagh Danny Kennedy said, "St Paul's High School Bessbrook is an impressive new building which reflects the high standard of quality education which is provided at this school. The new school building has simply transformed the local landscape and has created an imposing, yet impressive structure which impacts positively on all those who either use it or witness its sheer presence."
Principal Oliver Mooney said, “St Paul’s is a testimony to the art of possible, great vision from the architect and the expertise of master builders. Pupils, parents and staff of St Paul’s are proud and protective of their new facility and grateful to all those who helped create it.”
