Stitching a Community - Sandy Row regeneration
The third year architecture students of Queen’s University Belfast have been working on master plans for the regeneration of Sandy Row and the surrounding area; in an attempt to discover how best to address the decline of recent decades.
Year One will consist of a complete street overhaul including a refurbishment of the main street frontage and the installation of new and strategically chosen lights, paving, guttering, trees and recycling facilities.
Years Two and Three will deal with the introduction of green spaces, traffic control measures and the rationalisation of the street network.
Years Four and Five will tackle the issue of new developments in the community, residential, and educational quarters.
After this, there will be commercial expansion and social housing which will lead to possible introduction of schools.
The completion of this master plan will culminate in a change of perception for the outsider and allow for the creation of "new history".
