Watch Sinn Fein's Gerry Kelly bizarre Star Wars-themed election video
Get ready to cringe as one of Northern Ireland's prospective MPs takes desperate measures to win your vote this election.
Sinn Fein's Gerry Kelly has recorded a video of himself in a bizarre Star Wars-themed YouTube film, released on Twitter on Friday afternoon.
It features the north Belfast candidate engaging in excruciatingly awkward dialogue with an Imperial Stormtrooper (no, we're not sure what the connection is either).
The film opens to the famous booming Star Wars theme song, with canvassing Kelly striding towards a homeowner's front door where he's greeted by a man dressed in a Stormtrooper costume.
"Good morning, I'm Gerry Kelly, a Sinn Fein candidate, ehh, running in the, ehh, May the 7th election..." he mumbles.
"This is a straight fight between Sinn Fein and the DUP and for the first in, ehh, a hundred and thirty years since 1885, we might be able to get a nationalist candidate instead of, ehh, having a unionist candidate in."
The Stormtroooper replies: "Em, I normally vote SDLP but, ehh, on this occasion, ehh, I'm willing to lend you my vote, yes. May the fourth be with you."
To which Kelly drops the punchline: "No it's May the seventh. It's not May the fourth, it's May the seventh for the election. OK."
The video has been posted to Sinn Fein's YouTube channel, as political parties increasingly take to social media to get their message across to potential voters.
Though considering the Stormtroopers are the Star Wars baddies, we wonder if Kelly thought through the inference of trying to win over the "dark side".
Some constituents, however, might prefer if he stayed in a galaxy far, far away...
