Big Mac surprisingly healthy option over BLT
As people tuck into their lunchtime sarnie it might surprise them to learn that their BLT might be less healthy for them than a Big Mac.
Consumer watchdog Which? found in a study that the McDonald’s hamburger contains both less fat and fewer calories than some brands of bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich.
The Big Mac contains 24 grammes of fat, 2.1g of salt and a hefty 490 calories, however some brands of BLT have been found to contain higher concentration of each.
Which? executive director Richard Lloyd is calling for more ‘traffic light’ colour-coded labelling on food which reveals at a glance whether the item has low, medium or high amounts of salt, fat and sugars.
