Ulster and Ireland rugby star Andrew Trimble (23) deferred his degree in Theology at the Belfast Bible College for a semester to pursue his rugby career. He is currently recovering from a hernia operation. Originally from Coleraine, he now lives in Belfast.

Do you get eight hours sleep a night?

Yes, it's vital to my training and to my performance that I get my sleep. I've no problems sleeping, I fall asleep easily.

Early bird or night owl?

A night owl. My house mate always wants me to sit up and chat with him so I don't always get to bed on time. It's usually midnight before I head to bed. I find it hard getting up in the mornings.

Do you have a high pain threshold?

Yes, I'm out injured at the minute. I had a hernia operation three weeks ago and I'm recovering well from it. It was something that developed over a period of time. I'm undergoing rehabilitation training at the minute and I've three or four more weeks of recovery to go before I'm back on track. I'm finding it a little bit frustrating, to be honest, I'd like to be doing the things that everyone else is doing. I'm missing out on playing golf with my friends, too. When I was younger I played a lot of golf and tennis as well as rugby.

When was your immune system at its best?

I'd say probably it's at its best at the minute because I'm eating a lot of fruit, flaxseed and slow release carbs to build up my immune system and keep me healthy. I would get the cold every now and again and I seem to be allergic to a lot of things as well. I tend to sneeze and get runny eyes if a cat comes near me and I'm allergic to quite a lot of aftershaves as well. I don't know why but they make me sneeze.

Have you ever experienced depression?

No. Depression is a mental illness and I've never suffered any kind of depression.

Old wives' tales or as the doctor ordered?

What the doctor ordered. I wouldn't really pay attention to anything else.

When did you last visit the doctor?

Last week. If I've any problems the doctor just lives around the corner from me so I'm lucky in that way.

Last time you were feeling under the weather — what did you do?

I fired a couple of vitamin tablets into me and made sure I drank lots of water and ate properly.

Do you calorie count?

A little bit. I don't think about it too much.

Do you eat your 5 a day?

Yes, I eat oranges, bananas and pineapples mostly. I eat whatever vegetables are being cooked that day. Sometimes I cook and sometimes my housemates cook. It's usually peppers, mushrooms and onions.

Do you take any supplements?

Yes, when I'm training hard I take recovery supplements which contain proteins and carbohydrates. I take cod liver oil tablets every day, also.

Do you exercise?

I do seven or eight training sessions a week. I do two weight sessions a week, a speed session and two or three team sessions. Outside of that, I would try to stay off my feet as much as possible.

Do you believe in the mid-life crisis?

Well yeah, it does happen to people. I think that people think they're missing out on being young and don't want to get any older. I'm not sure why it happens.

Organic or ready meals?

Organic as it's much better for you. Occasionally I would have a ready meal if there's nothing there but I wouldn't normally eat them as you never know what's in them.

Is sex vital to overall wellbeing?

No, it's not.

Best advice ever received?

To go with your gut instinct. Since someone told me that it has changed the way I look at things. If I have a decision to make about anything then I tend to go with my gut instinct.

Have you ever donated blood?

Yes, when I was 14. I was in second year at Coleraine Institute when I donated blood. The last time I went to donate blood I wasn't allowed because I'd been in South Africa.

The Organ Debate — would you?

I would yes because I won't need them when I go and it could save someone's life or prolong their life.

Hair of the dog?

I don't really drink very often and if I do it's not enough to give me a hangover. I'd say the hair of the dog is an old wives tale anyway.

Desert island must have?

The Bible and an iPod with the Panama Kings on it and some more local stuff like the Two Door Cinema Club. I'll hunt for food when I get there so I'll bring a video of Ray Mears (bushcraft and survival expert) and teach myself how to survive in the wild!
