Tight bras won’t give you cancer

Bravissimo - bigger up bra shop to open in Belfast

While myths abound about the causes of cancer many remain in the dark over the true catalysts to the potentially-fatal disease, a national study has found.

One in four people wrongly believe that a tight bra can cause cancer while one in five think they have no way of preventing the disease if they have a family history of it.

The study showed that more than one in 10 were ignorant of the proven risks of the disease like obesity, the position of fat in the body, age, sunlight, alcohol and lifestyle.

Cork University Hospital cancer specialist Dr Derek Power said in the Irish Daily Mail: “While most surveyed were aware of classic risk factors such as smoking and poor diet, there were a lot of misconceptions,” which he hoped could be dispelled to combat predictions which could see Ireland suffer a 72% increase in cancer by 2030.
