Homes evacuated as Army examines Belfast devices

Published 29/10/2008 | 10:57

Dozens of people have been moved from their homes on the outskirts of Belfast as bomb disposal experts examine a number of suspicious devices.

The security alert is believed to be linked to dissident republican activity in the nationalist Trinbrook area.

Yesterday, police came under attack from stone-throwers in the area while examining a suspicious object.

This morning, they say more suspicious objects were discovered in gardens and people were moved from their homes to a local community hall.

The British Army is examining the devices.

Sinn Féin's Jennifer McCann said: "The residents are angry that someone is going about putting these devices in and around homes," she said.

"But they're also angry that this has been ongoing since yesterday morning and it still hasn't been sorted out."
