Children in the Republic of Ireland are happier and healthier than youngsters in Britain, it has been claimed.
A new study revealed more young people in Ireland have excellent or good health, the highest life satisfaction and are less likely to feel low or have poor body image.
It also found higher numbers of Irish children took part in physical activity and spent less time on computers.
The survey compared replies from 20,000 schoolchildren in Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales during 2006.
No data was collected in Northern Ireland.
Co-author Saoirse Nic Gabhainn, of National University of Ireland (NUI) Galway, said results of a post-recession study should be fascinating.
