Irish man crushed in horrific accident with lift
Two separate investigations are under way after the horrific death of a young man who was apparently crushed in a service lift.
Stephen Hampson (31), from Castlegrange Close, Clondalkin, Co Dublin, is understood to have become trapped in the lift at the Blu Bar, Tallaght, Dublin, at about 6pm on Sunday.
The father of two had started work just a few hours earlier when he became stuck in the lift. Gardai are still trying to ascertain exactly what happened but it is understood he may have been fatally injured when the lift began to move as he attempted to get out.
Dublin Fire Brigade were called to the scene but Mr Hampson, who worked as an assistant manager at the bar and known to friends as 'Hammo', died.
He is survived by his wife Ashling and sons Ryan and Joshua, parents Vera and Seamus, brothers David and Mark and his sister Loraine.
The contemporary bar and music venue opened just over two years ago in June 2006.
A spokesman for the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) said inspectors had been at the Blu Bar shortly after the accident occurred.
HSA investigators visited the premises again yesterday and will continue to interview other staff and potential witnesses over the coming days.
A parallel investigation is being conducted by the gardai to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident.
