I was delighted to read Dr Brian Patterson's call for a hygiene 'tsar' (December 7), not least because it reinforces my letter which seeks meaningful courses in hygiene and nutrition for carers (Write Back, November 22).
However, if Liberal Democrat Health spokesman Norman Lamb is to believed,
the Labour Government has quietly abandoned a target to slash MRSA by next
April, opting instead to reach this target by 2011.
It is
imperative that 'opinion formers' do everything possible to improve
standards of hygiene and nutrition in places of care.
One is forced
to ask how many elderly people must die needlessly because good men do
nothing?
