Saturday, January 19, 2008
Paul Shattock, director of the Autism Research Unit at Sunderland
University, will deliver a public lecture later this month in west Belfast
titled 'Autism and the environment'.
He is chairman of the European Service for People with Autism and general
secretary of the World Autism Organisation. His research interests include
rights of the individual with autism, models of service provision and
biomedical and environmental factors implicated in autism including the
impact of pesticides and the use and abuse of medication.
This lecture is open to all who have an interest in autistic spectrum
disorders (ASDs) including parents, clinicians and teachers.
It will provide an in-depth examination of the theories and research that
have evolved over the past decade pointing not only to possible links
between many aspects of environment and the development of autism and also
the treatment of the condition.
The venue for the lecture is St Mary's College, Falls Road, Belfast, on
Thursday, January 31, at 7pm. Admission is £10.
