Save Groomsport post office

Monday, May 12, 2008

Groomsport post office, like most others in village locations, has its own strong reasons for staying open.

The next nearest post office is over a mile away in Ballyholme.

That may seem like a small matter to a group of fit and healthy politicians and officials, but a two-mile round trip on foot represents most of a morning's work to a mother with children.

And it can be an insuperable distance for the elderly, disabled and ill.

I feel that, in relation to this Government, in spite of the consultation periods and invitations to comment, all the letters and petitions are about as effective, (somebody said) as butterflies hurling themselves against a steel door. I'd love to be proved wrong.
