Recently, the Belfast Telegraph headlined the increasing sexualisation of
young children and two pages further on in the same issue headlined the
massive increase in sexually-transmitted diseases among our teenagers.
It doesn't take a lot of thought to realise that the two are connected.
How refreshing therefore, to read Sharon Owen's column (May 7) condemning
the goings-on at the recent Girls Aloud concert, for it is precisely these
kinds of 'celebrities' who are promoting the sexualisation of our young
people and spoiling their childhood by so doing.
Well done, Sharon!
Keep up the good work, and may others have the courage to speak out like
you.
And may parents think long and hard before taking their children to such
shows.
