Let's welcome our troops home

Wednesday, May 14, 2008

Soldiers of 2 Royal Irish are in Afghanistan, working alongside their regular 1st Battalion colleagues.

Can I suggest that, when the men come home, all of whom come from Northern Ireland, the people of Belfast take up the call from Gordon Brown and have a returning home parade in Belfast?

We can then show the rest of the country how we, the people of Belfast, regard and respect our servicemen and war heroes.

The parade could start and finish in Belfast city centre, where they can be entertained in the best traditions of Belfast.

If you think this is a good idea contact the CO of 2 Royal Irish in Portadown. I'm sure Belfast council will help with the event and we could ask MLAs and MPs to contribute. We can then show the rest of the country how Belfast can 'Clear the Way' for our servicemen!
