13 jobs go as Lunns close store

The managing director of leading Belfast jewellery business Lunns has confirmed 13 jobs are to be lost when it closes one of its outlets in the city centre.

Peter Lunn said they greatly regretted that the Lunn’s II store in Royal Avenue was going to close its doors next month.

A closing down sale started at the store yesterday, with certain necklaces and rings being reduced by 50% in price.

Mr Lunn said: “Unfortunately in the present economic climate, it was unsustainable for us to continue to operate three shops in Belfast. However, we are very happy with how our outlets in Queen’s Arcade and Victoria Square are trading.”

Last month Lunns announced it was carrying out a “restructuring” of its business, part of which was the decision to close the Royal Avenue store.

A total of 13 jobs are to be lost, but Lunns said this was only a “small percentage” of its total workforce, which currently stands at more than 100.
