£4m hotel on the north coast could create 30 new jobs

Plans for a new £4m hotel on Northern Ireland’s north coast have been unveiled.

The proposed Port Gallen Lodge on the seafront road between Portrush and Portstewart would create 30 jobs.

Coleraine property developer the Kennedy Group has submitted a planning application to replace an existing derelict building on the Ballyreagh Road site with the 25-bedroom complex.

If approved, the new hotel could be open within a year.

Alistair Kennedy, commercial director of the Kennedy Group said: “Given the challenging economic climate more people than ever are considering weekend breaks and holidays closer to home.”

He added: “Our experience at the Ramada Hotel in Portrush and previously at the Bayview Hotel in Portballintrae has clearly highlighted the need for good quality and competitively priced family accommodation in the area.”

The planned development will be the Kennedy Group’s fifth hotel project in Northern Ireland in seven years.
