80% of bosses cancel Christrmas parties

The miserly Scrooge mentality will be hanging over this year's festive season, with four out of five bosses giving the annual party the chop.

A study has found the majority of employers will not be bankrolling a Christmas party for staff, blaming the economic downturn.

More than 70pc of bosses have deemed the annual gatherings as a "waste" of precious company money.

But for many employers the annual gatherings were already a headache, with fears of grievances and alcohol-fuelled disturbances spilling off the dance floor and into the workplace.

Around 68pc of Irish employers have received a complaint of harassment from an employee following their Christmas party.
